1. Discovering, developing and abstracting the relevance of the intellectual roots and its traditional richness in forming socio-religious traditions of ‘Islam Nusantara’.
  2. Critically Measuring, reviewing, and questioning, the identity and the ever evolving ‘Islam Nusantara’ as a symbol of the discourse and practice of Islam that are friendly, tolerant, and culturally in tuned, but also sensitive to the problems of social injustice and ecological issues.
  3. Examining and criticizing various forms of the expression and articulation of contemporary Islam in the public sphere, especially in Indonesia and Southeast Asia as well as generally in parts of the Western World.
  4. Reviewing the relation and significance of the discourse and practice of Islam in Indonesia with the humanitarian challenges in dynamics in the realm of the regional and global.
  5. Reviewing and developing the role of educational institution of Islam in Indonesia (Islamic boarding schools [pesantren], Madrasas and Islamic universities) regarding the internalization, reproduction and dissemination of Islam Nusantara in various arenas and domains.
  6. Learning and comparing the experience of Muslims diaspora from various nationalities who have long settled in Europe.
