Revisiting the colonial knowledge production and its projection in the museum
The recommendation from the Council for Culture (de Raad voor Cultuur) to unconditionally return cultural objects from former Dutch colonies echoes the wishes of the Werldculturen museum and the critics. But does restitution play an important part in the decolonization of museums?. What does ‘unconditionally’ mean in this context?.
In this second part of decolonizing museums talk, we will hear about how the colonial knowledge and objects were collected and presented. We will also hear the challenges that are encountered for the decolonizing effort. What is the way forward?
Join the conversation with Prof. dr Wayne Modest, Drs. Pim Westerkamp and Iwan Santosa on Weds 28 Oct at 10 am CET or 3 pm WIB (Jakarta time). Dr. Henrietta Lidchi, Volkenkunde museum chief curator will take question during Q&A.
